Presenting our Winnals Longdon Perry, crafted from the Winnals Longdon pear, a true gem among Perry pears, first raised by Mr. Winnal at Weston-under-Penyard around 1790.
Hailing from the region of Weston-under-Penyard, Herefordshire, the Winnals Longdon pear has earned its place as a beloved and cherished variety in the world of perry-making. With its greenish-yellow or yellow skin adorned with a rich, bold red flush, often streaked, and a delicate bloom, it is a pear of exceptional quality.
In its transformation into Perry, the result offers a delightful balance of medium to high acidity, coupled with low tannin, creating a vintage Perry of remarkable quality. Harvested in the depths of October, it captures the essence of the Autumn season during our main pressing period.
Our organic cultivation ensures that these pears are grown naturally, without the use of any chemicals, preserving the purity of the pear’s essence. Best served chilled.
Fermented only with the wild yeasts that live on the farm — we don't use pitched yeasts. We add no sulphites, although fermentation itself produces a modest amount. Some sediment is normal with our minimum intervention approach.
